City Park Turns Into a Nighttime Science Lab

Residents of Briarwood gathered in the town’s central park Thursday evening for an unusual community event: a nighttime science festival that transformed the normally quiet green space into an open-air laboratory.

Local universities and science clubs brought telescopes, microscopes, weather stations, and hands-on experiments for visitors of all ages. Children tested soil samples, while amateur astronomers helped families identify planets and constellations in the clear summer sky.

Organizers said the event was designed to make science more accessible outside traditional classrooms and laboratories.

“We wanted people to see that science is not something that only happens in universities,” said event coordinator Helen Carter. “It is happening all around us every day.”

The festival attracted more than 2,000 visitors, according to organizers. Food stalls and local musicians also took part, turning the evening into a broader community celebration.

Because of strong attendance, the town council is now considering making the science festival an annual event. A decision is expected later this year.
